Exactly how innocent are today's school kids?
Since I've been here I've heard as probably we all have, varying stories about what schoolchildren get up to. Now, I'm sure we were all not totally innocent when at school - I know I wasn't exactly 'innocent'.
Anyway, I've just seen a video of a local Mattayom 2 girl (not my school btw) and some of her, erm 'colleagues' doing things that would put some adults to shame.
My question: Are today's youngsters as 'innocent' as we were in our day or has society changed them, for better or worse?

The kids of today are far worse than you think admin... Due to the fact that every phone has a camera, every laptop has a webcam makes this a sure thing to happen... Hormones and young age goes hand in hand... Exploring and pushing boundaries are part of growing up... There are many girls having nude pictures of themselves on their phones, why, just for fun... You have to realize that when you were young and got a hold of a naugthy magazine that was considered bad and things would happen... Open up a fashion magazine today and you get all the "tits and ass" you can bare... so what is next??? Well, explore with video cameras... Porn is more and more accessable and they will try to get it... Put that together with some Thai boys pushing a girl with mental problems and you will get a tragedy, like the one you saw today!!! Young children do things that they do not fully understand the ramafications of, just because we think it is bad/rude/sad does not stop this from happening again... (take one of your students phones and check out, you might not find the movies/pictures as they know how to hide them, but rest assure, they do have them!)We should not throw the students out from school for this, we should try to find out what happened and how to stop it in the future!!!

If you knew the little creeps involved you wouldn't be so warm, fuzzy and forgiving.

Re: Exactly how innocent are today's school kids?
So what you want Doyen is to punish the students for their rest of their lives? Very clever...
I think it is more important to learn from what happened... Yes they should be punished, but this is not the end of the world! What can teachers do to help the girl from now on... What can teachers do to prevent boys from doing this? (they will have porn on their phones, they will have naughty pictures of their GF's (that is youth today)... What can we do to make them understand that it is not good to post on the Internet???
Is it right to throw students out of school, or should we try to support them to learn from their mistakes???
Am I that wrong?
PS. Doyen, you don't know me so how can you claim that I would not be so warm, fuzzy and forgiving? (I joke and play hard, but there is also a soft side to me, and that is not the fat)...

Re: Exactly how innocent are today's school kids?
Rumours have it that the girl was expelled and the boys involved got a slap on the wrist. Sounds fair to me.

Re: Exactly how innocent are today's school kids?
I disagree... They boys should have a harder punishment if the girl was expelled... If her parents choose to take her away and move to another school that is one thing, but if she got expelled that is another...
Both parties should be punished with the same force... They both did the same thing...
Not fair... Girl expelled--- Boys "bad boys, please don't do that again"---
Sounds fair to you??? NOPE!!!

We are in a muppet society run by muppets where it's abundantly clear the female race of muppets are intellectually far superior and should be the ones running this muppetdom!!!!

All I said was if you knew them you wouldn't be so forgiving. Don't get all philosophical about it. As for not knowing you, I was merely commenting on your post, not your existence.

Where can one see the evidence so that we can make up our own minds?

And all I said is that you don't know me well enough to tell me that I would not be so forgiving...
You are clearly not forgiving and has a black and white view of it all... This is a tragedy, for all parties and the school, reputation is ruined for many people... BUT this is life and it will move on... We have to look at what we can do to improve their and others lives in the future...
I can be mean, I can be forgiving... There is a time and place for everything, this time is time to be forgiving...
Do you think that a 14 year old girl will understand completely what she do? Don't think so... Do you think that a 15 year old boy will understand what he did? Don't think so... TEACH, do not PREACH!!!

Thank you for those pearls of wisdom, Father. If I say, if you knew them you MIGHT NOT be so forgiving, will that help???. Stop reading more into statements than what there is. As for me not being forgiving, you don't know ME well enough to make such assertions.

Re: Exactly how innocent are today's school kids?
Well, Doyen... Clearly we are on a path to argue a lot here... I will back down and say that if you change it to IF, I would still forgive them...
I might be sad, I might be angry, but what happend is nothing new, they just got caught this time round...
Kids today are far worse than you, and I do not thing that they bond the same way with me as with you... Did your students tell you about it? Did they come to you to ask for advice? Some teachers have different reports with students and they do get to teach and help/guide the students in difficult times...
My students come to me and ask for help, I will always help them to the best of my abilities, even if it borderlines what we should do... (Thais will not always understand)
So, you think you know me, but I can not think I know you... I fail to see the logic there...
Let us just agree that this is sad for all parties...

Given the nature of the incident. I think it highly unlikely that any of them would have approached a teacher for advice, unless it was for video production tips, of course. As a footnote to this, the boys will welcomed back at school as heroes. Next year they will probably continue to be lazy, disruptive, and at times, malicious bordering on criminal.

Are you sure about that Doyen?

Which part? The tips on video production values, them being welcomed back as hereos, or them continuing to be lazy etc.?
1. The teacher giving tips on video production values. Joke.
2. Welcomed back as hereos. Probably, by many of the boys.
3. Continue to be lazy and disruptive. Definitely.
4. Continue to be malicious bordering on criminal. Possibly.
