Native speaker means what exactly?

Post by Admin on Thu Nov 19, 2009 2:52 pm

A few days ago I was approached by one of the English Department heads here in Nakhon asking me to place an advertisement for an English teacher at her school. Requirements, not too many to be honest but one of them was that the applicant had to be a native English speaker.

Since that ad was placed I have had maybe 40 - 50 responses and most of the applicants (70%+) are from countries where English is not the native language (Cameroon, Ghana etc)

Are people so desperate for work that they just send out application 'en mass', do they not understand simple English or are they just trying to block my inbox up??

Today's rant over

Well, everyone is a native speaker... I am a native speaker of Norwegian... Come and tell me I do a bad job... I am amazing... I am just "wannabe gods gift to this school"...

Native depends on how desperate the school is and how much they need a white face!!! nothing to do with native!!!

I would have thought native speaker means your parents spoke a certain language with you as you were growing up. In the case of the above mentioned position that language would be English.

with regards to the above post it does say native ENGLISH speaker not just native speaker. Please engage brain and read before posting. To be fair though I suppose if you had to think about your posts you would not have time to post the 1000 or so you have

NOw if you read the headline you dumbshit, the question is...

Native speaker means what exactly? That is what I was talking about....

Native from experience is also about how desperate a school is... Many non-native English speakers work as "Natives" because of the skin colour... Or do you not agree???

No, you're right, Snowflake. If completely ignore the content of the post, I could see why you'd say that.

Ok Snowy if you just want to read the title of the thread but not the content then of course you are right silly me. Of course as I have already said if you did read the content of these posts maybe you would not have time to write your 1000 posts

Well, the title was formed as a question, if you don't want me to answer it, don't ask... If you have a problem with that, to bad...

Now, there are many more things I could say about the post but I chose to answer the title question, you can talk about the post, I can talk about the title... My choice, not yours... If you have a problem with that... I don't give a kee...

Thanks, all I need now is to try to check what I am writing...

I am so jealous of all of you since you never make a mistake and never type to quick...

If I want single period, i use one, if i want a capital letter, i use one...

i like to use 1 o (never liked the oo as i am not james bond)...

if you do not understand the post, bonk off, learn to read... if you are so dedicated to teach english that you have to spellcheck everything and grammar check well, good luck... now, have a nice day sir...

remember that i can type anything i want... ANYTHING...
