Zanax - good or bad?

Post by Admin on Mon Nov 02, 2009 9:45 am

My doctor gave me some Zanax a couple of weeks ago as I have been having trouble sleeping. Apart from Morphine ( Thumbsup ) I don't really like taking medication to sleep so don't usually, preferring only a couple or three beers. Anyway, last night, I didn't have a beer, not one preferring to watch TV till around midnight then tried to sleep. 1am, 1:30, 2, 2:30 and come 3am when I still couldn't sleep I dropped a Zanax. Nothing for a half hour or so and then I drifted off only to be woken by my alarm some 3 hours later.

My questions are:

a) Do you have problems sleeping
and
b) If so, how do you get to sleep

Xanax is a Benzodizapine drug. Valium is the most well known Benzo. The problem with Benzo's is that dependency can develop quite quickly. If you're only taking it occasionally it shouldn't be too much of a problem. If your taking it everyday, before long you won't be able to sleep without them. Because your body is so accustomed to those few beers each night to help you sleep, when you don't have a few beers you have trouble sleeping. Be careful with the Xanax. Don't mix them with booze, and don't drive after taking them.

a) Yes, I do sometimes have trouble sleeping..usually after I've become too reliant on booze/late nights etc... to get me to sleep easily.

b) I don't think there's any easy solution. Zanax is just replacing one drug with another. I reckon you just have tough it out...have a bad sleep/ no sleep for a few days and then your body will let you sleep and you can get back into some sort of healthy/healthier rhythm.

While I do not belive in medicated sleep I have to say that some people need it...

Addicts need it to go to sleep, the body have to relax some time.

People with loads of problems might have to get some pills, but all in all I think that the body will sort this out by itself...

The only thing I can say is that I would be careful with eating to many of those pills and I would be really careful with mixing the pills with alcohol...

Pills are not good for you, but they may be a "requierd" evil to help you sleep...

PS' Noone has stolen any keys from my keyboard, I just try really hard to make spelling mistakes so all of you can have something to complain about!!!

Give that, stay at home... Don't encourage Admin to do that these days, I mean stay at home and mix pills and beer!!!

Please try to come with something constructive, or stay away!

Take 1 Zanex and have 2 or 3 bottles of beer and then you will sleep for a good 12 hours and feel great the next day... this works for me BUT other have their own opinions.

2 Zanax, 12 beers and I slept well. Thanks.

Will do the same tonight.

I dare say if you administer the 12 beers you may not even need that second Zanax.

Dumb shits, both of you...

Encourage people with clear problems to mix pills and beer!

You should both be ashamed of yourselves!!! (since you will chase anything with a skirt)...

On the other side, what about some exercise, that should make you tired... Why not try as you did last year and pop down to the gym after work, you will feel better, get a new hobby, and you will be healthy(mabye)...

You will certainly feel better about yourself and your body will function better. It might help you sleep better at night too!
Change your lifestyle, dont try to drown it with beer or pills!

Just as a point of clarification, it's Xanax, not Zanax.

"Before taking Xanax, tell your doctor if you have any breathing problems, glaucoma, kidney or liver disease, or a history of depression, suicidal thoughts, or addiction to drugs or alcohol.

Do not drink alcohol while taking Xanax. This medication can increase the effects of alcohol. Cheers

Xanax may be habit-forming and should be used only by the person it was prescribed for. Xanax should never be shared with another person, especially someone who has a history of drug abuse or addiction".

D-Champ + 1 Liter Water + 1 Xanax + 5 (additional) Hours Undisturbed Sleep = best hangover cure .... in the world!

I've had problems sleeping almost my whole life. I've tried so many different pills, herbs, potions and imbibes I can't even count. The thing that really worked well was regular exercise. I know, I know. That's the most boring answer ever but I had to put that out there. All other viable "solutions" only worked for a short time or were habit forming or both.

For me, taking Xanax was not too addicting but I noticed that after taking it for more than a week or so I would begin to feel exceedingly groggy in the mornings. Completely opposite to the fully rested feeling I had when I initially began taking it, it was almost as bad as not sleeping at all.

Similarly, Valium has a significant hangover effect after prolonged consumption. So, for me, that too was right out. Although the effects of mixing the little blue'uns with booze is far more pronounced (and enjoyable! IMO) compared with Xanax.

As for the whole "drugs are BAD, mmmkay" thing, we know. Ok? We ALL know.

We just don't care.

GOOD POST!!!

I still like the little buggers [Xanax],but, like most hpynotics and sedatives, I rarely take them. They're more benificial and ENJOYABLE (especially with a couple of beers) that way.

Words that sound like they start with 'Z' but actually begin with 'X':

Xanax (2 x's, 1 at the beginning AND 1 at the end...marvellous), Xylophone (1 of the most underrated musical instruments...OF ALL TIME!!), Xerxes and Xavier (both truly excellent names), and Xebra of course (one of the greatest animals...half tiger/half horse..just splendid!)
Any others...Am I getting off topic?
