Pregnant Thai woman detained for smuggling cocaine

Kuala Lumpur - Malaysian police have detained a Thai woman for allegedly attempting to smuggle out more two kilogrammes of cocaine valued at 1.7 million ringgit (459,460 dollars), official news reports said Tuesday.

The 22-year-old suspect, who is two months pregnant, was detained Friday at a bus stop, after she had boarded a bus headed for the southern Thai city of Haatyai, Bernama news agency said.

Police discovered she had hidden the drugs in two photo frames, which were packed with her clothes, said Kuala Lumpur narcotics chief Kang Chez Chiang.

"We believe the woman flew from Bangkok to Johannesburg, South Africa, and then to Lima, Peru, to get the supply before flying into (Kuala Lumpur), and wanted to make her way to Thailand by land," Kang said.

He said police believe the woman was acting as a courier for an international drug ring, adding that the suspect would be charged with drug trafficking, which carries a mandatory death sentence if convicted.



A 22 yr old girl flying from Bangkok to South Africa to Peru and back to Malaysia and then overland into Thailand doesn't know what she is doing .... not having that. Having said that she, the girl, is only a pawn in a big international drug chess like smuggling ring. She unfortunately, for her got caught, how many others get through? ime to focus on the big wigs. Mules, curriers and anyone who smuggles drugs, animals, anything over borders are very aware of the risks they are taking... For some that risk is a drug in itself...

The money they can earn from just carry a little bag over is enourmous... Even I would seriously consider carrying over a certain substance if the reward was great enough!!!

Don't really feel sorry for her, she got caught this time, how many times have she done this before??? Never?? I don't believe her!

Drugs will come inn, why even bother to arrest the people who carry the stuff, you have to arrest the people behind the people who pay the people to carry stuff, that way you might be on the right track!!

In a multi-billion business there will always be people willing to take risks... Don't feel sorry for them!!!
