Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has promised to end corruption and all illegal political activities to restore foreigners' confidence in the country.
"Thailand can be developed if corruption is eradicated and laws are enforced seriously, particularly the laws relating to political activities," Mr Abhisit said while giving a speech on the economic crisis and the future of the country at the Thai Navy on Thursday morning.
"I'm a Democrat who abides by the constitution and has never intimidated or interfered with people with different ideas, but all activities must be carried out within the legal framework," he said.
The government had be forced to take resolute measures under the law to deal with the anti-government riots in April and the gathering in Chiang Mai, where protesters were armed.
He admitted the task would not be easy, but the government would try to achieve it to bring stability to the country.
