Penang by train?

Post by Freebird on Fri Jul 10, 2009 12:06 am

Can you take a train from Nakpon to Penang or do you have to go to Hatya to get a train? Have to go for a b visa Ive been told and Penang is the closest embassy.

You can go from Nakhon but will have to change trains in Thung Song. As it takes three times as long by train you're better to drive to thung Song and catch the train there!

I would suggest the Minivan to Had Yai, that would get you there quicker...

I have done all three modes - air, rail and minivan. Air is fastest but I went from Bangkok; minivan is the next fastest and the most dangerous; and rail is the slowest, cheapest, and safest.

You can go from NST to Penang in a day, but after getting your visa you will only be able to make it to Had Yai where you'll have to spend the night, as the minivan will have stopped for the day by the time you arrive from Penang. Unless you use the "fast visa service" available at the consulate, but that isn't guaranteed...

Have fun!

I drive down usually in around 5 hours or so.

They wouldn't let me in to Malaysia last time though because my windows were too dark. They told me if I took the tint off I'd be able to continue. I told them that I don't think that much of their country, turned around and had a good night in Songkhla instead.
