The Bakery that Ate Nakhon.
As Nakhon grows, so does the amount of bakeries and cafes. "Quick Draw Ligor" seems to be opening new ones faster than it takes to bake a loaf of bread. Which brings me to the point. The amount of cafes/bakeries is growing by the days; Why the fhcuk can't you buy a decent loaf of bread in this town? Don't the Quick Draws realise the potential gold mine (both finacially and socially) they are sitting on if they were to expand not just their shops, but their products as well? I think the time is ripe for a bread revolution in Nakhon.

Re: The Bakery that Ate Nakhon.
Good bread for Thais or good bread for foreigners? That is an issue we could debate here? I have heard many people claim that the bread they eat is very good. But let us be honest here, bread in NST is NOT of very high caliber, sure the SP bread is ok, sure the AA bread is ok, but I would love to have some decent sour bread down at Tops or at Carrefour... So why do they not have it? They do not cater to foreigners, they cater to Thais and how often do they eat bread? (not very often, in fact I think it is seldom)...
Along with this thread we could also start "why do they not sell good Tom-Yang Gung in Perth, Australia??? (guess they do not cater for them)...
Besides, really good bread costs a bit more than 25B to make...
If you really think it is a gold mine- why not make it your gold mine? I would buy a piece of loaf from you...

ok.. i understand snowy and where he is coming from.... but even back home they do sell tum yum koung at home ..it is pricey.. but you can buy it in the supermarkets....i do admit it is a small section..
I think with the gowth of Ligor .. they should turn out some farang bread ,, even if it was 100 loafs aweek .. experiment..
i am sure they can do it ..
i know they cater for thais and they like the sweet bread ect..
some thais in nakhon like real bread too... and wish they could get it here ..
it is a pity bkk and pkt and khorat seem to be the only places you can by good bread ..
here is keeping ones fingers crossed .. maybe a bakery will give it a try??
i think most farangs would buy it .. even if it was 80 baht a loaf..
if someone knows the owner of ligor .. please ask he they could give it a try.

Re: The Bakery that Ate Nakhon.
How many Thais do you think will buy a bread for 100B when they can buy one for 25B?
I think that they cater for their people, and yes as you say, you can buy real Thai food in larger cities abroad... But, you can as you also say Gold Member buy "real" bread in places like Phuket, Bangkok, Korat, and other places where you can find a larger population of foreigners... Demand and supply... Sean, asking them to change their recipes are an insult... I don't know how you asked but I find it strange that they refused to bake something that you wanted... (Are you sure that Palm went to Liqor bakery?)
Why not pop down to 19th hole next to the yamaha dealer at Kukwang intersection, it is owned by a nice lady and I do believe that she is more than willing to bake whatever you need, the way you want it... But if you are too lazy to ask, then you will never know...

So, since this can be very subjective, what is a decent loaf of bread? There are so many types of bread out there that we would love to get some, what would you consider they should make, if you could talk to them?

HOW ABOUT SIMPLE ..
wholemeal,, bloomer,, danish..

if a place can do this .. maybe they will do a special order for a few people while making this..like, sour, rye, dough, dark..

Re: The Bakery that Ate Nakhon.
It seems there are a few choices here.
1. Go and speak to some different bakery owners (19, Bank for example) and ask them if they are willing to provide newer varieties of bread if the demand is there.
2. Order bread from Krabi and get it sent over here via the van system (as at least one former resident was doing).
3. Make it yourself (with the potential of selling it to others as well). I already know at least two NST residents who regularly bake their own bread and would be glad to share some baker's secrets.
However, I do agree that it's frustrating to see so many bakeries that, for the most part, sell cheap junk.

Wholemeal bread that isn't full of sugar would be a good starting point.

Seriously, this town is devoid of good bread and I doubt Thais are gonna see the light any time soon.
Time to start making your own?

Re: The Bakery that Ate Nakhon.
Guess that they will bake the bread that they will sell to the people who comes to buy it...
So, let us all get in line outside a bakery and one buy one we go inn and the same bread...
If we get 50 people together I guess that they will bake the darn thing...
Every day at the same shop, same people... That would make them think!!!
