Take a look:

*A passport renewal just went up from $75 to $110. Of course an increase was expected, but a 50% increase???

*THE WORST is a new $82 fee to add additional passport visa pages. Last year I got it done at the Embassy last year for free!

WTF? All they did was glue about 30 extra pages to your passport. Sure, I can understand ...

I learned today that if you change schools and try to get a new workpermit you now have to test yourself for syphilis... Invasion of privacy, sure, but do you want the workpermit???

Many reasons to argue that there is no need for the Government to know what STD's we have but then again, can we really fight it? Before it used to be the mother of one of our students that was the head of the workpermit office, that has no changed so we are toast over here... Lucky I do not have to check myself!!!

I've got a friend who helps teachers get jobs. Of course, he has to deal with the new work permits for the new teachers. He's at a private school and some stuff is the same. For example, men must wear suit jackets in their photos. However, about the medical certificates, only a syphillis test is needed at my school which is a public school. Check out what might be OR ARE the new requirements for a private school:

I'm looking for information relating to TL's. I've been teaching in Thailand for seven years and it looks as if I will be out of a job/visa come next April if I don't get a licence or "start" a BA Ed degree......by that date (300,000 baht or advice anyone).

I have a BTEC HND Business Studies, Grad IPM, CELTA (Swanage, UK) etc, plus my experience, but it looks as if it will all count for nothing!!! I live here with a Thai wife, child, house etc and it's all looking pretty dodgy.

The recent rumors of substantial increases in work permit fees may be well-founded. Discussions are underway in the Department of Employment that could once again lead to massive hikes in these annual fees. The current fee for a new work permit, or renewal of a one-year permit, is 3,000 baht.

The office of Thanawan Tongsukchote, head of the Phuket Provincial Employment Office, confirmed to the Gazette this morning that an increase in the fees is indeed "under consideration". And ...

The future of honorary Thai consulates around the world is in doubt following the Thai government’s move to waive tourist visa fees until March 2010.

The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday announced that as of today all foreigners applying for single-entry tourist visas at Thai embassies, consulates and honorary consulates will be exempt from fees.

Some honorary Thai consulates fear the move will cost them millions of baht in lost visa revenue and could result in their closure.

What visa are you on?

Most , I nearly typed moist there ..... teachers here are on Non 'B' visas. If you are married here, to a Thai national you are entitled to a Non 'O' visa. Right, there is not that much of a difference but the Non 'O' does have a few extra benefits, the biggest being that should you get sacked/leave your job you can escape the 7 day 'get out of the country' rule. You still can stay here for the validity of your visa and get that visa extended.

What kinnd of visa are you on?
